They look exactly as I expected them to look (not a compliment).

Do I believe in Life after Cars?
Absolutely!
Motorcycles!

What an opening line to make sure nobody with a bit of reason takes you seriously - “cars ruin everything”

They clearly do not. You know what ruins hiking, fishing, skiing, tubing, biking, kayaking, and all the other cool things Washington has to offer? Trying to do it without a personal vehicle.

There was once a rail line that ran from Union Station to Snolquamie Pass (and on to Chicago). They ran snow trains and operated a ski lodge. Even better, it was all electric!

Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Road (as it was called) ceased passenger operations in the 60's and went bankrupt in the 70's. Now that line is the Iron Horse Trail.

“Parents of young children may be particularly intrigued by the chapter that details how cities built for cars have effectively sapped opportunities for childhood independence”

Our child was never more than a mile from their various schools - thus they always just walked (hooray city living). Same for things like practices - all within walking distance. I suspect these authors are out of touch with common folks (as the only parents we knew who drove their kids everywhere / shocked our child walked where the private school parents).
