Jen,
I’m happy you got to this local art event. It seemed that only the other main Seattle art critic had given a slap at it and the other local art blogs seemed mysteriously quite about it. It was quite a curious evening of performances and indeed many in the audience seemed uneasy about much of it. Some of it reminded me of the kind of innocent performances of the Beats of the fifties (though maybe not so innocent) and you’re right about it often playing like a Warholian movie. The pieces wore the cloak of a many performance art piece of past years that were less than comfortable for their audiences. The place of an audience onslaught remains a theme it would appear. I endured and tried to find a way to grasp the significance. It was not easy but I held out that I needed another to help me with insight, and I have the funny feeling there is a generational culture thing with the younger artists that an old guy like me can easily miss. A local gallery owner pointed out that these younger art folk do often collage from the unique experiences of their world as they grew up. There certainly was some cuteness and, with a few, some interesting concepts being explored. You took a while to get to it. I’m wondering if it wasn’t a bit of a difficult event to give words to?

As one of the bloggers who was mysteriously silent about the performance, I can honestly say I'm sorry I missed it. I had other obligations that night.
