I agree, I loved #4 the most too. This is the one that really captured the vision.
That said, I'm glad I'm getting my tax refund - under President Obama it went up so much I can finally pay off my Platinum Lifetime SIFF membership and go see some really cool films.
I saw the peripheral exhibit at the Guggenheim several years ago. I was confused in general, but struck by the meticulousness of the photos and sculptures. Ultimately I decided I didn't have 9 hours for the cycle itself but I liked the distillation.
I love Matthew Barney and his weird fixations. His films are definitely impenetrable at times, but I don't care. I could meditate to that woman cutting potatoes with her shoes.
Small correction: Part 3's giant was not filmed on the moors, but rather the east coast of Northern Ireland, in an incredible natural rock formation called "The Giant's Causeway", which figures in the irish legends of Finn MacCool, a giant.
Okay... so this film is how many years old already? And why is it that we still care enough about it to give it a suggests this week? I mean it only shows up in town every three years or so.
Matthew Barney was a J Crew model as an undergraduate at Yale. For his final project he invited the whole school to a performance where he stripped naked and climbed the flag pole, only after it had been covered with Vasiline. True story.
Don't forget the hershey-syrup monkey poop lube for camshaft humper! I overheard audience memebers near me who were there for the whole marathon say (after the relief of laughter that seemed to sweep through the theater when the new peice was over) "ummm, he's definitetly slipping."

Never watched it @8.
