What idiot would put something like that near a VA center?

Not only the stupidity of the placement, it also seems like a pretty shitty piece of art as well. Really, dollar bills over coffins? Seems more worthy of a mediocre political cartoonist than an entire mural.

@1 - I agree. I don't think the first reaction one should have when looking at a piece of art is, "Duh." Maybe they painted over it out of embarrassment.

If the intent was censorship, then the quality of the speech/art does not matter.

I'd say the freedom of a society's speech should be judged based on how they censor inflammatory speech with no redeeming value. You shouldn't have to prove your speech's utility in order for it to be protected.

But yeah. Shitty mural.

It's a stunt. or a work of art or whatever. This is just Deitch's first salvo as new director of LA MOCA especially notable for its timing in relation to the Smithsonian censorship debacle. I doubt anybody really complained because if they had I'm sure fux news would be all over it. shit I think I hear them revving their engines right now.

Let's put big murals with graphic depictions of skeletal dying and dead AIDS patients across from Club Z, Pony, and the Eagle, and then cry censorship when all the fags whine about it and demand that they be painted over.

What happened to my country? We have to tolerate religious thugs calling people 'faggot' and worse but an art museum destroys a mural because of it's anti-war content?

If you want to complain to MOCA, here is a link to their 'contact us' page:

All is not lost. I think we could agree that the mural had the desired effect: It scared and offended the powers that be. Ironic that some think the war casualties buried in the Vet's graveyard are offended. I think they would applaud the mural's message if they were alive. Too late, my loves, too late.

I like dih@4 theory even better - it's the first act in an elaborate art event.

I also like the neat machine the painters used. Want!

Not the same. An art museum should be protecting art from censorship. And then there is the moral aspect to this issue. This was a 'teaching opportunity' about the Bush and Obama wars.

Please wait...
