patronizing, irreverent, dismissive, unfair, rude, and just plain LAME.
You should be ashamed of the fact that you cannot bring yourself to give this show a fair review and chance. These are graduate students who have worked incredibly hard to complete a Masters program and your disregard for this in the form of a "smug" brush-off is grounds enough to dump your ass! "neo-'80's-dudeism?" " Friend you on Facebook"??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? So very juvenile. Get your big butt out there and do your job. First the crones at the Henry dismisses last years Master show with that tragic installation and now you follow suit (copycatting, as usual). Would you know "greatness" if it was sitting next to you? Doubt it. But maybe one of your "sources" can figure that out for you.The show really looks quite nice and presents very well. You can feature a sad Whitney rehash show at the Henry prominently but cannot bring yourself to give this some careful thought and consideration? It absolutely deserves a nod in the form of an article and it is an essential part of furthering the process of developing future art and artists locally. Shame on you Jen Graves. Help!

I think graduate level art degrees should be pushing the envelope of art on a theoretical basis. As such, I didn't think this show was as good as previous ones. There were a few I liked, and one I really liked (the 15' metal sculpture), but most of it was "ho-hum."

@1, it's a touring show from PS1, not the Whitney. And it's really good.
I don't know why you're calling Jim Rittiman a crone, he's a dude, and his work on the MFA shows is consistently solid, under all kinds of pressure.
An MFA show isn't really an occasion for a review, it's a starting point for an entry into the world. There's great work in the show, including Sean McElroy's totally charming, filthy installation, but it would be premature to give an MFA show the same kind of review you'd give a curated group show or any of these artists' solo debuts (which I hope will happen elsewhere in town, soon.)

“Honorable mention; she's getting there.”

There's some good stuff in this show though I wish the students exhibited more work

You foolish people, du-uh. If any one of you did your homework you would know that these works were the tip of the iceberg. Each artist was limited by the amount of space the Henry made available and only a taste of a large body of work. Each of them had a one or two person show of their work at campus galleries at Sandpoint and the CMA Facility.

As for an MFA show being to soon to review, I wonder if anyone said that about Jenny Saville when Saatchi bought everything she made right of school, or when Dana Schutz took the NYC by storm the year she graduated. I'm a little late, but it is said.

Please wait...
