Miss Rozich was clearly selected for looks and not her ability. Ian Berry must be sweating her big time to give 25k to a greeting card illustrator posing as a conceptual artist. It shows how broke painting and the perception of it's value really is in second rate art minds, especially around here.

Dear WTFPEOPLE,

YOU CAN'T BE THE ONLY COMMENT ON THIS SLOG.

ONE, don't be such a jealous bitch.

TWO, Stacey Rozich is an artist. She has an insane work ethic and is innovative and inspiring in her style and skill.

THREE, I actually think your fucking greeting card comment is a nice comment.

PEOPLE LOVE HER SHIT. WTF (people) IS WRONG WITH THAT?! It is unique and universal. It is special and intricate and imaginative. GO SEE HER EXHIBIT at FLAT COLOR this month. See that shit up close. You WILL GET IT. If you don't get it...well then...you are blinded (most likely by your jealous bitchiness).

FOUR, so the fuck what, Stacey Rozich IS A MEGA BABE. So is Eirik Johnson...the other recipient of the award. You forgot to mention that.

FIFTH, why not give a big thank you to IAN BERRY and other such folks that HAVE $25,000 to donate to talented, special, deserving artists. SO they can DO THEIR WORK, PAY THEIR RENT, and CREATE AND CONTRIBUTE IN OUR COMMUNITY! It's not easy putting your self and your artwork out there and it is a very special thing to be able to do so and be supported in doing so. This is something to CELEBRATE.

SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SAYING?

SIXTH...

THIS IS WHAT THE FUCK I AM SAYING...

DON'T BE SUCH A FANCY ANONYMOUS FUCK.
DON'T EVEN TALK ABOUT SECOND RATE MINDS!
DON'T FUCK WITH MY BEST FRIEND.
DON'T FUCK WITH ART.
DON'T FUCK WITH COMMUNITY.
DON'T FUCK WITH BEAUTY.

AND again,
MOST IMPORTANTLY,
DON'T FUCK WITH MY BEST FRIEND.

Now I guess we're enemies,
Whatever the opposite of XO XO is,
Kaylee Cole

PS. Yes, I'm drunk on champagne from celebrating Stacey Rozich's news on winning the Neddy. Yes, she is my best friend. Yes, I've never posted a comment on a blog before and YES I am not ashamed of what I said. And also YES!! YEs yes! YES! OF everyone I know and love SHE DESERVES THIS SHIT SO DON'T YOU TAKE IT AWAY FROM HER YOU MEAN INTERNET COMMENTER. DON'T!

Ladies and gentlemen: Kaylee Cole. She'll be here all week, tip your waitress.

On the real though, I am super lucky I got this grant soley on my looks. I wanted to thank this wonderful city whose community has nurtured my looks so I went on to receive such accolades which I won with a wink and a hair flip, not hard work. It's late. I've got a short deadline for Hallmark -- Mother's Day is just around the corner y'all!

haha, people gettin jealous, including me, need to step my game up to even get half as productive as miss rozich
5
Ummm, why are productivity, mega babe status,an insane work ethic, and all that good 'stuff' reasons enough to give $25k to the gal with the book covers and the pieces of "ART" that look like they're sold at the Bellevue Art Fair by some hippie from the San Juan Islands? Why yes, indeed, all artists DO deserve support and financial gains, I just can't help wondering how this award was given to that work? Painting award? Conceptual artist? How hip do we have to be until we are embarrassed to all hell for what it has all become around here??? This has GOTTA be the last gasp for this backwoods art colony running on fumes.
Jealous?, no, shocked, yes! The simple fact that this girl is not a fine artist, period, and the art sucks. TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?!? NO WAY!!! The Behnke family should be ashamed of where they have let this award end up. As the NY Times said last week, the best way to make it in the art world is to NOT be in the art world. So does that mean that this stupid trend qualifies why this girl got this award? Hope not but they are trying way too hard here.
TWENTY-FIVE-THOUSAND-DOLLARS...say it to yourself a couple of times...it might finally sink i...sigh.
6
Boo hoo WTFPEOPLE. No one likes your art. Go start your own award and give it to what you think is great or better yet go dig a hole and crawl in.
7
WTFPEOPLE you are, of course, entitled to your opinion on the quality of Stacey Rozich's art but to suggest she got the award because of her looks is disrespectful, sexist and absurd. I must add that I think it's actually outdated, elitist attitudes like yours that hold Seattle back in the national and international art scene, not Stacey Rozich winning a painting award. Rozich, and many other talented people in this city are pushing things forward and elevating Seattle artistically by injecting some new life into the scene and playing with genres. Refusing to conform to the received art establishment wisdom that conceptualism is the n'est plus ultra of modern artistic endeavour is actually looking increasingly progressive. To dismiss her work as 'greeting card' art is, in itself, hilariously snobbish and to berate her for artistically resembling 'a San Juan Island hippie' is just bizarrely insular! (You are aware that she has an international following, right?) One wonders who, exactly, reaches the lofty heights of true artistic eligibility in your eyes? I'm sure many 'conceptual' painters have won this award before and many will again, but this year it's been won by a wildly popular artist with a distinctive, energetic and accessible style. You don't have to like it but, really, get some perspective. Of course all artists must expect public criticism - it's part of the job, but your comments are just petty and vituperative.

You guys are awesome to say so many wonderful and eloquent words about my daughter,
Stacey. It brings tears to an old lady's eyes. She came into this world with a paint brush (ouch!) in hand and has never stopped doing her best. She deserves all the accolades and awards she can get. Jealous haters will always be out there to bring you down to their level. So there.
Mama Bear Rozich
