The Secret Life of a Jeff Koons Sculpture in a Town of 6,000

Solid writing and a much more interesting visual arts avenue than the "what's new in galleries" posts I'm used to. I appreciate that Abigail went beyond gushing and sound bites. She effectively communicated how the Dictator/Koons affected this community. This is something I will remember reading and will talk to others about.

Give Abigail more posts!

I'm confused. I am under the impression (correct me if I'm wrong) that art is to be appreciated on many levels, in a personal way. So, am I wrong to just say "Cool, they commissioned a cannon!" and then appreciate it as a civil war cannon, without giving a hoot who did it? Because, frankly, I don't give a damn who did it, what they bring to the work, what is "phallic" about it. Isn't the work itself enough?

That's actually one of the least phallic artillery weapons I've ever seen. A large round object with a hole that launches projectiles? How is that not a pregnant woman pooting out babies (200 lb babies 2 miles, what an image).

I wanted to find out more about this sculpture and, other than this article, there is still little in-depth information available on the net. I suppose writers and critics are waiting to see how the planned sculptures from the Hulk Elvis series will inter-relate before passing judgment on the one isolated element. Having viewed the full set of paintings, which I found somewhat repetitious, I'm looking forward to seeing the sculptural works like Dictator which I think will punctuate the series.

Good one! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna visit this museum after what you've told your readers about it:)

This article is exciting to me because I too am trying to make a replica 13 inch mortar. Can someone put me in contact with someone who worked on this mortar so I can learn how it was done etc?
