Washington may have been the first state to legalize sales of recreational marijuana, but we're still way behind when it comes to some policies. For instance: edibles (ours must be sold in max doses of 10mg of THC per serving, which is weak as fuck); social lounges (imagine smoking weed in the comfort of your favorite cafe. Now stop imagining it because it's never gonna happen.); and home grows, which are still illegal in Washington state, despite the fact that every other state with rec sales has okayed growing your own. While the first two policies are not likely to change any time soon, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB), the state agency that regulates legal weed, is currently seeking comment on the future of home grows. Green thumbs, unite!
The WSLCB has come up with three potential options for legal home grows:
1.) "Tightly Regulated Recreational Marijuana Home Grows."
This option would require a permit and allow a max of four plants per household, which must be entered into the state traceability system and tracked using bar codes.
2.) "Local Control of Recreational Marijuana Home Grows."
This option also requires a permit and allows a max of four plants per household, but it lets local governments set the rules on traceability and "requirements for security, preventing youth access, preventing diversion, etc."
3.) "Recreational Home Grows are Prohibited."
This option sucks.
If you are in favor of options 1 or 2, the Liquor and Cannabis Board will hold a public hearing on this matter on Wednesday, October 4 at 10 a.m. in Olympia. They will also take written comments through October 11, which you can email here. And if you're in favor of option 3, go back to Alabama, Jeff. We don't need your kind around here.
