From VF's press release...

Speaking publicly for the first time since completing gender transition, Caitlyn Jenner compares her emotional two-day photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz for the July cover of Vanity Fair to winning the gold medal for decathlon at the 1976 Olympics. She tells Pulitzer Prize–winning V.F. contributing editor and author of Friday Night Lights Buzz Bissinger, “That was a good day, but the last couple of days were better.... This shoot was about my life and who I am as a person. It’s not about the fanfare, it’s not about people cheering in the stadium, it’s not about going down the street and everybody giving you ‘that a boy, Bruce,’ pat on the back, okay. This is about your life.”

The People of the Internet have set aside their usual criticisms about the impossible beauty standards to which women in our culture are held—particularly by the covers of glossy magazines—to heap on praise 65-year-old Caitlyn Jenner's appearance. And her bravery. Her bravery too. But most of the comments I've seen this morning led with praise for Jenner's appearance. And she does look amazing. Also: some are detecting a little "fuck you" in Jenner going with Caitlyn-with-a-C and not Kaitlyn-with-a-K.

UPDATE: And I'll say it again...

Hey, reporters covering the 2016 Republican nomination contest: Asking Jeb, Rand, Marco, Ted, Lindsey, Donald, Carly, Rick, Rick, George, Ben, et al, which public restroom they think their fellow Republican Caitlyn Jenner should have to use—the men's restroom or the women's restroom (in places not evolved enough, of course, to have gender-neutral restrooms, aka most places)—is a totally legitimate question. The Republican nominee becomes the defacto leader of the Republican party and Republican politicians all over the country are pushing anti-trans bathroom bills that would force trans men and women to use the restroom that reflects the gender they were assigned at birth. So where do Jeb, Rand, Marco, et al, stand on this sort of legislation? Do they support forcing Jenner to use mens restrooms? Or do they oppose this kind of dangerous, bigoted anti-trans legislation? It's a much more legitimate and germane question than whether they would attend the hypothetical gay weddings of their imaginary gay friends.
