Shell’s Arctic Drilling Rig Hearing Scheduled for July 23: The Port of Seattle and Foss Maritime finally have a date for their hearing to appeal the city’s determination that the port’s land-use permit isn’t in compliance with its ability to host Shell’s Polar Pioneer. The city had set a deadline of June 4 to remove the Polar Pioneer from Terminal 5, but Foss Maritime (the company that is leasing the space for Shell) delayed it. The Polar Pioneer is expected to leave Terminal 5 sometime this month—well before the July 23 hearing.

Speaking of Oil, the Pacific Northwest Is Likely to Become a Hub for Oil and Gas Production: It’s partially because of our proximity to Asia, and also because of the United States’ surplus of unrefined crude oil. “Despite the effective ban on crude-oil exports that's been in place for the last 40 years, [Sightline Institute policy director Eric] de Place and others are worried that new signals from the Obama administration mean that ban will soon be lifted,” reports The Stranger's Sydney Brownstone.

Seattle’s Start-Up Culture Is Officially Dominated by Bros: Less than 20 percent of the city’s start-ups were founded by women, reports the Puget Sound Business Journal.
