Seattle's the Gods Themselves bring a glittery swagger to a rock scene largely devoid of it.

There's a helluva lot going on this Saturday, including the Summit Block Party on that Capitol Hill street, Six Organs of Admittance's Hexadic showcase at Fremont Abbey Arts Center, and Tom Dyer's New Pagan Gods' release party for their tribute album to Northwest rock from 1959 to 1968 at Easy Street Records, to name just a few. But if you're looking for some of the sexiest and most danceable rock from Seattle's musical underground, you may want to head to Lo-Fi for the Gods Themselves. They're going to be airing a grip of seductive hip-swivelers from their forthcoming Pink Noise LP (mixed by Stranger Genius nominee Steve Fisk and released by the band on October 2).

Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Astra Elane (formerly of Atomic Bride and Shocking Blue tribute band Daemon Lovers), the Gods Themselves also feature ex-Atomic Bride Collin O'Meara on drums and Dustin Patterson (the Connerys) on baritone guitar. Their set at this year's Capitol Hill Block Party exhibited their stunning, libido-boosting prowess, especially on their cover of Ginuwine's "Pony." My colleague Mike Nipper's early comparison of the band to Boss Hog and the Honeymoon Killers still applies, but the Gods Themselves have refined their sound into something more polished and nuanced since he wrote that May 2014 post. There's a glittery swagger here that you rarely find in local groups. That can come in handy on a Saturday night, if you know what I mean.
