The King County Elections office certified the final results of all the local races yesterday afternoon. Most of the outcomes have been clear—if not since election night, at least for the last week or so. That is, of course, with the exception of the race for Seattle City Council District 1, covering West Seattle and South Park.

Lisa Herbold and Shannon Braddock have been neck-and-neck. The final results have Herbold ahead by just 39 votes, but the race is so close that the elections office will do a recount, beginning December 3 and ending by December 7. Herbold has increased her lead since election night, when she was trailing Braddock by 733 votes. But we won't know whether her lead will hold until the recount is completed.

District 1 had decent voter turnout (45.51 percent) relative to the other districts, but of the ballots turned in and counted from that district, 2,714 didn't actually vote in the city council race. Another 164 wrote in someone other than Herbold or Braddock. And about 270 had signature problems or other issues that weren't resolved by the time the results were certified, meaning those ballots weren't counted. Usually, those are all small factors, but in a race this close, those ballots could have made a difference. (Keep this race in mind next time you think your vote doesn't count, folks!)

As it stands, Herbold won 12,459 votes and Braddock won 12,420. The final winner will take office in January.

While you hold your breath for the recount, here's how all the other city races (and the two statewide ballot measures) turned out:
