John Olson writes wild and mercurial prose poems. The wildness is the point. This is a guy who graduated from high school in Burien in 1965 and immediately hitchhiked to California because “I wanted to be where it was all happening,” he told me in 2004, the year this newspaper gave him a Genius Award. He wrote all through the ’60s and ’70s and ’80s but didn’t publish until the ’90s because he felt the earlier stuff was crap. These days, he lives on Queen Anne and is less shy and publishes lots and it’s never not wild. His new book of prose poems is called Larynx Galaxy.
