Restaurant Details

  • In the mood for a huge, cheesy, potentially messy and generally yummy sandwich? Go here: The Other Coast Cafe—the other coast being, of course, the East Coast. The website for this business claims "[They] don't just make a sandwich [they] build a sandwich!'" Not sure what the difference between making and building is, but one gets their meaning. The downtown location delivers.
  • Features: Cheap Eats, Delivery and Family Friendly (nice to babies)
  • Cuisine: Diner and New American
  • Serving Hours: Mon-Fri 10:30 am-7:00 pm, Sat-Sun 11:00 am-6:00 pm

well the other reviews are from over a year ago so maybe things have gone astray...
i just paid ten bucks for a half meatball sub. the bread as far as i can tell is just a cheap Gai's french roll. the meatballs are huge and fairly tasty, with big hunks of garlic throughout, but kind of tough and hard to bite and chew. there's hardly any sauce on the sub, which wouldn't be so bad i guess if the meat was tender and juicy(it is not). from the texture of the bread and melted cheese i'm guessing they microwaved my sandwich. the whole thing was really tough and chewy and hard to eat. in fact after a few bites i threw away the bread and cut up the meatballs into chunks and sauteed them in some tomato sauce. now i'm wondering if the meatballs might have had MSG in them...
$10 for a half sub that sucks? i won't be back.

For real. They are the best.

As an East Coast food snob, I can attest that these are the best damn sandwiches in Seattle. Try the Rajun Cajun, you won't be dissappointed. A couple small quibbles, the prices have been creeping up even though the volume of customers has been steady and don't you think it's about time to get a goddamned spring on the door in Ballard so you don't have to get up every 10 seconds to shut the door in the winter?

Best sandwhichs in Seattle

Well, my old U-District roommate was cheating on me with our other U-District roommate and taking her to the Ballard location. Only, it wasn't a chore for me to get up and consume the most amazing sandwiches ever.

Best sangwiches in Seattle

I used to force my old U-District roommate to drive down to Ballard with me every Sunday afternoon for Other Coast subs. :) They are easily the best I've found in Seattle I have since moved out of Washington but make it a point to hit Other Coast every time I visit Seattle.

Best sandwhichs in Seattle

My old U-District roommate used to make me wake up early on the weekend (you know, before noon) to drive to Ballard for his favorite sandwhich place. Let's just say it takes a lot for me to want to wake up early in the morning for a sandwhich - but oh my god....Other coast cafe is worth it. I still have a difficult time finding good 'hoagies' or 'subs' in Seattle, these guys definitely are the best we got.
