I just wanted to chime in with (1) appreciation for @7's cogent explanation of the difference between active and passive voice, and simultaneously, (2) utter bafflement at 7's unhinged ravings about bi-erasure.

How many times has Dan posted letters while redacting pertinent details (such as the sender's name)? He knows more about the identities of these letter-writers than we do. You're making an enormous logical leap--and then, mid-leap, using your assumptions as a platform from which to launch nasty (and in the world of this metaphor, literally groundless) accusations. If you're intent on attacking Dan, maybe wait until you can attack him for something other than a scenario you've concocted out of whole cloth.

"Unfortunately this base isn't enough to win an election on its own."

"Unfortunately" is not the right word for this.

I'm pretty GGG--I've done a lot of kinky stuff with past girlfriends because they wanted it, and I even came to enjoy it--but that whole incredulous reaction I get from kinky people when I tell them that I really don't care about doing anything beyond vanilla sex pisses me off. Not everyone has sublimated their weird-ass childhood traumas into sexual gratification separate from the actual act of coitus, you smug fuckers.

@24: Exactly my reaction. I generally like Dan's advice, but the reply to WHIP struck me as highly presumptuous and unhelpful.

@1 Almost as good as "That doesn't unbang your mom."

This guy needs to move on. I've been in his situation before (not with a transperson), and it's no fun at all. It feels like being dumped, even though it technically isn't. What it IS is a red light with klaxons going off, warning that the woman he cares about doesn't care about him with even close to the same fervor. He needs to run, not walk.

@8: I totally agree. To the extent that sex and political beliefs are different things, I think calling a GLBTA ally "queer" pointlessly muddles the distinction.

Just to follow that up with an example: I have a pretty thick penis. For years, putting a condom would quickly cut off blood flow to my penis and cause me to lose my erection. I eventually realized that I needed large-size condoms, and my problem was solved. I didn't have erectile dysfunction, and I certainly didn't have a disregard for the sexual health of my partners--I just had condoms that didn't fit me.

I'm amazed at how judgmental some of the female commenters here are. Condoms work by forming a tight seal that keeps outside fluids from reaching the penis, and vice versa. To do that, it necessarily has to constrict the penis. Erections are maintained by blood flow. A condom can affect the flow of blood to the penis. That's a fact, not evidence of "erectile dysfunction."
