Jun 9, 2015 BombasticMO commented on City Officials Reject Creating a Municipal Broadband Network to Compete with Comcast.
Have you guys read the report? It's amazingly positive on the idea of setting up a public network. It's unclear why Murray and Mattmiller are already giving up.

On page 39:
"This analysis indicates that the City is in a favorable position because of its ability to focus on long-term goals in its pursuit of Fiber to the Premises. Fiber tends to be a capital-intensive endeavor with a somewhat slow return on investment (ROI). The City is at an advantage because of its bonding power and ability to prioritize goals other than only a bottom line (unlike most private companies). If the City is able to partner with Seattle City Light and build fiber in the power space as well as seek cooperation internally, it has a better chance at succeeding. The City’s weakness is that it has never taken on an endeavor like this."

We've never done a lot of things. That doesn't mean we shouldn't leverage our favorable position to start.

Are you putting this on itunes and other podcasting services? I can't find it in my app. The best part of podcasts is being able to listen to them on the go. Soundcloud doesn't seem as useful for that.

The City's elections website also lists Terry Hofman as running against Clark. Anyone followed up to see if he's decided if he's running or not?

For the record, Pony replaced the Cha Cha before the development. It only existed because the other bars were temporarily vacant due to the tear-down.

And how can you forget the Man Ray?! That place's closure has left a hole in my heart no other gay bar can fill.

Also, did I use the word aggressive yet? I'm really into it.

@6) That's just bullshit pessimism for pessimism's sake. Of course protest like this matter, because they draw attention to an issue aggressively more than a blog or blog comment can alone.

Case in point: Sightline has been covering this aggressive problem for a year now.

Took some arrests to get attention to the matter. And candidates running for office getting arrested is drastically more newsworthy than just plain-old activists.

To pretend these things don't blow up is willful ignorance.

Amazing reporting Dom. A few typos along the way, but so glad you're on this story.

She would be an amazing councilmember. I hope she doesn't run against O'Brien, he seems like he'd be a great ally on the council, but I'd happily volunteer on her campaign against any of the others.

Any chance this can get into next week's paper? It's a story that needs massive telling.
