Catalina Vel-DuRay is finally back up north.
5:03 PM yesterday Catalina Vel-DuRay commented on Just So We're Clear, Ohio, Banning Abortion at Six Weeks is Effectively Banning Abortion Completely.
I read recently that a lot of abortions are now chemically based rather than surgical. If that's true - and it seemed to come from a reliable, pro-woman source - it seems like it's only a matter of time before most safe abortions will be a private matter that can be conducted at home. That's not much comfort for today, and I suppose that the anti-child, pro-fetus crowd can always clamp down on access to those drugs, but I think that this is ultimately a losing battle for the anti-choice crowd.

JonnoN dear, if you actually look at the election results, you'll see that in most of the Central and Eastern Washington (as well as out in the peninsula) the electorate is fairly evenly divided on a variety of issues. most of the "red" counties we pretty close to 50/50 when it came to Trump/Clinton.

The most lopsided Republican counties are the ones where there are more head of livestock than people (which is ironic, because those people are particularly dependent on the Federal teet) Except for Lewis County, of course. Those people are just nuts.

You are essentially correct, Comte dear (City Light owns six dams, with the biggest one being two hours north of Spokane) but my point was that the state is stronger intact. Indeed, in a dystopian Trump reality, with more Tea Party type Senators, it could be decided to do something boneheaded like sell off the BPA and turn those dams over to something like Excelon, in which case the Munis and PUD's would lose those preferential power purchase contracts that allow electricity to be so cheap, which in turn helps drive economic development.

It's very much in our best interests to keep "Liberty" a pipe dream of the Hee-Haw set, and work on ways to relate to the vast majority of eastern Washingtonians who aren't stupid.

Don't forget that Eastern Washington provides about 50% of Seattle's, and about 90% of PSE's, electricity (and basically all of Snohmish County's).

We need them as much as they need us, so let's all just get along.
7:43 AM yesterday Catalina Vel-DuRay commented on End the Saddest Year of All Time with the Saddest Movie of All Time.
The saddest year.... yeah, 1942-44, the early thirties, 1917-18, 1861-65, 1775-83 - those years were all laff riots compared to this.

(Allow me a moment while I unroll my eyes)

So we "elected" an Orange Julius. Are we just going to be "sad", or are we going to do something about it? (And by "do" I don't mean the tired old march and protest, which has been remarkably ineffectual for decades. I mean real resistance, on every level. Sand in the gears of the machine, and all that)

And "It's A Wonderful Life" is a perfectly fine movie that I've always enjoyed, but I've never once been reduced to tears over it - except for maybe the last scene, which is pure unadulterated Capra schmaltz. Maybe that's because I was raised by depression-era parents and I knew a lot of George Bailey types - people who wanted to do big things but were held back by financial hardship, family obligations and World War (although ironically, it was the war - along with the GI Bill - that allowed people like my dad to claw his way out of the ranks of the working poor) . That's the way life works, but the idea of being able to see what life would be like without you is an interesting diversion, and one that many people have probably daydreamed abut.

Oh dry up, Raindrop. They were all parodying an old American stereotype of the country rube, and the rubes are the ones who got us in this mess.

President-Elect Dingleberry apparently doesn't understand how contracts work.

Hee-Haw land is really going to owe us for this election.

HUB is the Husky Union Building, as anyone who ever went to UW knows.

Duh.

Well, the tomb is the great equalizer, isn't it? We might as well just enjoy it while we're here.

My grandparent's pressure cooker blew up once. It sprayed hot liquid all over the kitchen and killed their parakeet and a bunch of baby chicks. (Yes, they kept a parakeet and chicks in their kitchen - the baby chickens only during brooding season. When I said I come from country folks, I meant it).
