Red Apple is pretty expensive (believe me, I shop at the Beacon Hill location every day). They've cleaned up their act in recent years, putting in better meat and produce, but they are pricey compared to QFC or Safeway. I go there because it is convenient, has a nice staff, and is a manageable size. It reminds me of grocery stores in Iowa when I was growing up.

The intersection of 23rd and Jackson was a wasteland back in the 80's. As I recall, it was just vacant lots - at least the east side of 23rd.

When I started college back in Iowa the drinking age was 19. You could buy beer at the bar and the bowling alley in the student union. Kids drank heavily their freshman year, both because of the lower age and the new found freedom of being away from home, but it cooled down after that. I think raising the drinking age to 21 actually made the problem worse.

It makes like look ridiculous and petty because they are.

Republicans are horrible people.

Old white men shouldn't be allowed to voice their opinions unless they have been vetted by a younger relative first.

ctmcmull, that's central WA for you. Luckily, there's more livestock than people there (all that ag being thanks to the largess of the Federal government, but they never make that connection)

Oh my! "Thousands of dollars" for a range hood. How unfair!

I worked in and around commercial kitchens for decades, and I'm well aware of the cost of equipment. Anyone with experience and a sound business plan can get the financing and, properly run, it will recoup its costs quickly.

It's a commercial kitchen, that's it. No dining room, no other overhead. You can romanticize it all you want, but it's a commercial kitchen.

I think that Our Dear David wins this comment thread.

It would seem to me that if there is indeed a shortage of commissary kitchen space, that would be a very easy demand to meet. Commercial kitchens are very straightforward and not all that expensive to set up. Maybe there is some entrepreneur out there looking for an opportunity.

I saw one of these for the first time on the train this evening. No one was in leather, however.

I drove up to the N. Cascades Nat'l Park for work on Monday and came back on Tuesday. I took the Arlington/Oso/Darrington route, and did not see one Trump sign, which was pretty surprising. Even more surprising was the number of Hillary signs I saw. I didn't expect those.
