I agree with gift-shopping. But I think of all the targets the writer could have picked, grocery store is not really the best. Of all the shops, grocery store I could see really having legitimate utility to society to stay open at least partial hours on holidays. People forget dinner items. People need diapers. Milk, bread. People gotta eat. Not that most people will starve without a grocery store for one day, but let's focus on the bigger problems like dept stores.

@123 - there's plenty of fault to go around. It's not either/or. Parents, stupid. Range, stupid.

Good. Their constant texting in the theater was annoying.

#4 - I totally disagree (just my opinion). Have you ever had someone directly in front of you texting? The light is INCREDIBLY distracting. At least it is to me. If they had a "dark mode" on phones where the background was dark and the text was lit -- producing less overall light -- that might help.

Gay men in a men's locker room should be held to the same standard as a straight man would be in a women's locker room. Oh wait - that doesn't happen?

Seriously - the problem with Dan's analogy response is that it falls into the trap of comparing *what we should expect* from one group to *what actually happens* to another.

If we *expect* straight men to have some level of decorum with women (regardless of how often that standard is met) then we should *expect* gay men to do the same. Otherwise you have the dictionary definition of a double standard.

"I'm Not Worried About Surveillance Because I'm Not Doing Anything Wrong"

The problem with this line of thinking is that the implicit assumption that you and the government agree on what's acceptable and legal. But one day the government will decide that something YOU think is perfectly reasonable is actually "wrong". Then what?

Tipping feels like putting the onus of server wages on consumers rather than employers. Tipping should only be extra for going above and beyond.

There are tons of things that are fun if you do them but if a lot of people do them ruin something or other. It's called the tragedy of the commons:…

In this case, the shared resource is the natural beauty, peace, quiet and tranquility that a natural body of water affords. If one person jet skis once a year, probably not a huge deal. When lots of people do it, it ruins everything for everyone.

Noise pollution is kind of an abstract concept that a lot of people don't really fully grasp since it's hard to think of quiet - the absence of something - as a shared resource.

And I fucking hate leaf blowers with a passion too.

Couldn't the prosecution have gone for reckless endangerment or negligence? Zimmerman got out of his car when the cops told him not to. Isn't that enough to say he was being reckless? (I agree - murder was an over-reach).
