Apr 2, 2013 kj commented on Slog Poll: Are You a Super Reader?.
I don't think anybody needs to make excuses for the volume or content of their reading. My students (college) seem to be reading more books than they did a few years ago, which is cool. Some people would call the bulk of what they choose trash, but I don't care. It makes me happy to see them enjoying reading.

Personally, I read 2-3 books per week, but not everybody can do that. I'm fast, I will read any time I even have 2-5 minutes waiting in line, and I always carry a book and ereader. My brother reads much more slowly and probably finishes 6 fat novels a year, mostly during his bus commute. It seems like he remembers what he reads better than I do, also.

I hate "Wonderful Christmastime" SO MUCH. It's even more annoying than most annoying Christmas music including fucking "Jinglebell Rock."

I hate Rudy and can't imagine the show without the original cast. Losing Nathan was bad enough, but no Simon? DNW.

Earlier this month, I attended the wedding of friends who included a statement about marriage equality in their ceremony. Both of these lovely people have quite conservative families, but nobody seemed to bat an eye.

@12, I didn't come from much money, but I got to go to week-long church camp (cheap) and dance camps that I helped pay for with babysitting dollars. As an older teen, I worked at a Camp Fire camp that had lots of low-income campers and we got federally subsidized food. We served so many almond butter sandwiches from those giant #10 cans we got because the almond industry was so heavily subsidized.

Isn't the tree intersexed, not bisexual? I don't think we can infer the tree's sexual identity without more evidence.
Apr 26, 2012 kj commented on Lutheran Bishop in Minnesota Comes Out Against Anti-Gay Amendment.
As @8 said, the ELCA flavor of Lutheranism is far more liberal than other flavors, but it varies by congregation. As somebody raised in the ELCA (after the merger of the ALC and the LCA when I was going through confirmation in 88), this makes me pretty happy. I did leave the church at 18 (this was late 1992), when the new pastor of our church decided he wanted our congregation to stake a stand against inclusion of gay and lesbian members--my whole family and others walked out of that Thanksgiving service. I was already questioning if I really had faith in a god at that point, but I feel culturally Lutheran and the It is really nice to hear goodness coming from that quarter.

The only thing that might hold me back is the thought of all the other people's bodies that had been pressed against it before me.

I keep my old magenta razr in a drawer because I loved it so much. When T-Mobile dropped me (I moved away and roamed too much) and I had to switch carriers, I chose the only flip phone I could get and used it until I dropped it in water. I love my iphone, but still kind of want my old razr back.

It's actually brilliant of Inslee. He wants to be absolutely sure McKenna's base knows he's fighting this ruling, while at the same time pointing out to the undecided and liberal voters that McKenna isn't on their sides, really.
