Wow I just had a great experience with this video. I didn't realize that in the background on my computer, the track "Angelus" from the Monks of Notre Dame album was playing, I thought it was a soundtrack that had been set to the video. It's just all bells, and so it made the vid seem very ceremonial. Nice way to bid bye-bye.
Like Anthony said, I also grew up watching this thing, so it will definitely be missed. Canceling the program for me has the feel of making a decision that you know is smart but is nevertheless unsatisfying.

Wow if this goes through, Metro is doomed. Shit already runs late, doesn't work in the snow, etc., etc. Already cut service last year (or year before?). Fewer/crappier routes mean fewer riders, means fewer routes next funding cycle, etc. Doomed.

commented on Steve Scher's Letter Firing Cliff Mass
I thought Scher's letter was dumb but at least pointed the way towards providing another venue for discussion of topics more broad than the weather. 'Course, this could've been done easily by expanding or relaxing what was already there.
Playing devil's advocate -- I wonder what, if any, personally caustic relationships might exist between Mass, Scher, and the producer(s). I've heard from several sources, entirely independently of each other, that Cliff is a dick to be around. It's possible they just didn't want to deal with him anymore.

Seems pretty clear that this was edited to maximize the hilarity. Plenty there to work with, though.

What he really wanted to do—and, more to the point, what he thought he could do—was bankrupt the United States of America.
Just like Grover Norquist.
