Morning News: No Fluoride in Portland, a Beatboxing Goat, and the Waffle House Disaster Index.
Was it one of those FBI interviews where they don't allow taper recorders or video equipment, but have another agent writing down the notes for the official record?
I'm guessing this was an FBI assassination. They get to write the official record, and they made sure there was nothing to independently record the murder.
The lesson here: never, ever, ever talk to the FBI without a lawyer with you. They will shoot you dead.

@75: Refer to my responses at @64 & @69.
Also, your view of suicide is skewed. The greatest suicide risk is with elderly men, followed by middle aged men. Kids and teens have very low suicide rates. The reason it seems like kids have a problem is that they ask for help. Elderly and middle aged men do not and are ignored and forgotten about. For example, a middle aged man is about 8 times as likely to kill himself than a teenaged girl. The rates are higher for elderly men.

There Are No Atheists In Foxholes.
Why isn't Wolf blaming God for destroying a town, causing billions in damage, and killing dozens? Doesn't Wolf think it is fucked up that God would crush children to death in an elementary school that has no shelter? Wouldn't this be a good place for His infinite mercy? Oh, but He decided not to smite a woman and her baby while killing everything else in sight. Whoop-de-fucking-do! Look how fucking great God is. We must thank Him for such mercy! If I went and burned down a house and a few of the occupants got out uninjured, they wouldn't be thanking me. I think Wolf needs to acknowledge that what God did in Morris, Oklahoma was pretty much a dick move. The fact that God didn't kill the woman and her baby was probably because God isn't very thorough--it wasn't as if He wasn't trying.

@66: Why would you think they will all have the same political views? I think it would be very unlikely. There is no evidence that the previous public suicide was politically motivated (which, as I noted above, is probably an excuse and not a cause). People generally don't kill themselves for politics--they kill others. So when someone appears to have killed themselves over politics, I will raise the bullshit flag. Politics was the excuse, while the cause was probably a severe mental illness.
@67: Bullshit. You just want to criticize me because I'm the target in this thread. Go fuck yourself. I brought up a valid concern and provided a link on the ethical guidelines--nothing more.

@63: Btw, I'm criticizing Dan in the hopes that he will be more attentive to the public health consequences here. But if you want to see seriously bad reporting go to the Daily Mail article that was linked. That article is almost designed to create copycat suicides (which the Daily Mail would probably gleefully report on).

@63: At what point did differential moralization become a topic in this thread? Nobody cares about the right wing terrorist who is now dead. What I do care about is the well studied fact that improperly reporting on suicide can increase the incidence of suicide, especially when its depiction is graphic and glamorous. And attributing a suicide to a single cause grossly oversimplifies the actual causes behind the act.
Did you know of Dominique Venner before today? I doubt anyone responding on this thread did. Now everybody knows. Why? Because he killed himself in a dramatic fashion and the media decided to pass it along.
Second question: do you think the previous suicide in front of kids by the Eiffel Tower inspired this suicide?
Third question: where will the next glamorous copycat suicide take place?
