Departures Departures, the winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, is about a musician who, after being laid off, takes a job putting cremation-bound corpses in coffins. He is too ashamed of his new job to tell his friends and family what he does for a living. New York Magazine calls it an “(e)normously affecting, even haunting film with a superb lead performance.”
