Skip the line at Molly Moon's. I love it, but Bluebird's even better! Seriously. Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream? Amazing! Olympia Marionberry? Oh my god! Plus the owner is nice as pie. So go over there and keep him in business!

Just a few days ago my husband and I decided to skip the line (however fast it may move) at Molly Moon's and try out the new new place up the street. For some reason, even though we walk the block quite frequently, it took us forever to find it; the sign is adorable and quaint, but somehow just doesn't draw attention to itself enough.

The space is really nice despite the fact that you have to walk up a few steps then down a bunch more to get into that room that you can see right there in front of you from the street. Little bits of paper on the walls and tables have information about how everything from the dairy and fruit in the ice cream to the tea leaves and the furniture and floor coverings are all locally sourced which is lovely if getting a little tired these days. I appreciate it, I do, but we've heard it all, everywhere, yes, yes, you're very green and local-leaning. Great, now shut up about it.

There was one guy working behind the counter and about three people in front of us. It took no less than 15 minutes to get a single scoop of ice cream into my mouth from the time I knew what I wanted to order. I know it has to be hard being new and getting into the groove of things, but it was rather excruciating to hear the counter guy say things like "Oh good! I haven't made one of those yet!" and then proceed to over think every step of the process until, thank goodness, another employee stepped in to help. But it still didn't really change the wait time, two people who aren't sure what's going on don't move any faster than one.

All the ice cream flavors were in different sized repurposed containers (way to reuse!) in a freezer chest. It appeared that there isn't yet a standardized system of "this flavor goes in this size tub and always lives right here in this spot" which would help a great deal as the scoop guys were constantly lifting tubs out of the dark cooler to get a better look at the color trying to find my strawberry (which was behind them on the counter, oops!). And this is after scooping vanilla for me after I'd asked for strawberry.

Anyway, this is all nitpicky stuff that should be ironed out when they've been there a bit longer. The real story is, the ice cream was delicious, creamy and satisfying. If you're in a hurry, even the block-long line at Molly Moon's will get the ice cream in your belly faster.

I'd like to come back for lunch and try their sandwiches and tea sometime to round out the experience.
