Green star Citizen (Queen Anne)

706 Taylor Ave N
Seattle, WA 98109

Website

Citizen is a very cute cafe in the eastern part of lower Queen Anne with crepes, sandwiches, and a careful selection of inexpensive wine (bottles of which are absurdly low-priced and available to go). Service isn't lightning-fast when they're busy, but everyone is extremely courteous. Citizen is for the people!

Great food and atmosphere

I've been here nearly a dozen times and I've always found the food and service fast and exemplary. The breakfast tacos are as good or better than you'll find in Austin. The BLAT is beyond awesome. The Citizen sandwich is a must.

The coffee isn't bad either.

Don't want to power down the animal fat, they have healthy options as well, and damned tasty ones.

The atmosphere is wonderfully funky. The place is in an old building with exposed beams and a great vibe.

If you're in Lower Queen Anne, you have to check this place out. If you intend to become a regular, ask for a punchcard to get a free coffee after 10 visits. Even though we will likely not live in Lower Queen Anne proper, Citizen is going to be a nice weekend destination for us.

Yummy and approachable

I never thought of myself as a crepe lover until I went here. There is something perfect about their crepes and the fillings. Perhaps it is the drizzled sauces on top or the combinations they have come up with, but whatever the magic, I now crave their food.

What I really like is that I feel completely comfortable stopping by and placing a quick order to go, getting my good cup of coffee or cappuccino while I wait, and enjoying sitting at the little bar watching people head to work. They never seem put out (some places hate the to go order) and they don't have that pretentiousness that sometimes comes with a place that looks this hip (I love the decor and style and am so happy that I don't feel like I have to look a certain way to enjoy it).

One day I stopped by and got two coffees and two crepes to go. They asked who the lucky person was that was getting it delivered by me and I explained it was my two year anniversary with my boyfriend and I was going to surprise him by dropping it off at work. When they gave me my crepe boxes, they had drawn a heart with the number 2 next to it. I was touched. Very sweet.

Right now my favorite thing in the morning is to get the maple syrup covered crepe filled with bacon, white cheddar, basil and add an egg to it. The egg is perfectly cooked (over medium) and sits on top so when you cut into it, you feel like you have all your favorite aspects of a breakfast in one easy bite.

For non-breakfast, I really like whatever they have as a special, or their turkey rasberry jam one (also with bacon, so you can see a theme here on what I like). But don't get me wrong, their sandwiches are also really good.

Can't wait to try their new breakfast items. Biscuits and Gravy? Really? Oh my god. I've got to try that.
