Comet (Capitol Hill)

Website

The Comet’s done a fine job of getting people drunk since 1948. More recently—for a long time—it was a place to see hearing-impairing punk bands, get beer spilled on you, and generally experience the disappearing joys of anti-gentrification. Under the new ownership of David Meinert and Jason Lajeunesse (who together also own Lost Lake and Big Mario’s, and individually own the 5 Point, Onto Entertainment, Barboza, Neumos, Moe Bar, and the Capitol Hill Block Party), the Comet no longer has tattered barstools or two footprint outlines worn through the linoleum in front of each toilet in the women’s room, the Comet serves food (previously unthinkable), and the Comet is only hosting live music a few times a month.

Whiney Staff

As Far as I'm concerned none of the people at the comet should have a job. All the staff did the whole night was whine and b@#^$ even those i was like basically throwing money at them. Snooty even though it's a S#&% dive bar. I wouldn't go back if the bar tenders were tipping ME!! GREAT music though. Maybe the staff thinks they are hot s*(# but whoever books the bands at this venue make it the only worth while reason for showing up!

Good time in Seattle

Can't say the music was very good. Drinks were plentiful, and the door guy was quite...entertaining/intriguing:) I would go back, especially considering that the place was surrounded by gay bars. Not so much my scene - but the door guy at the Comet will keep my attention.

whats not to love?

Ive seen 'new favorite bands' for the first time at the comet multiple times. They book good shows (generally). The atmosphere is charming without being gimicky and definitely on the 'dive' end of things.

Awesome

Is there a better bar in Seattle for doing nothing but staring at a TV and drowning yourself in oblivion?
