THURSDAY 3/3

THE KNOWGOODERS OPEN FOR BUSINESS

The Knowgooders (Seattle/Bellingham trio Chance Random, Matthew Thel-onious Wolf, and Serv Stacks) unveil their debut album, Business Casual, tonight. It's a strong, earnest collection of hard-knockin' (but not macho) backpack hiphop in the vicinity of Stones Throw's and Rhymesayers' eclectically funky productions. Incisive flows express everyday-grindin' scenarios and socially conscientious observations. With Nightcaps, DJ WD4D, and Luke Rain. Nectar, 8 pm, $8, 21+.

FRIDAY 3/4

FUNK/SOUL MONTHLY DUG TURNS 3

The stellar funk/soul/disco/reggae/boogie/jazz/Latin monthly Dug, which celebrates its third anniversary tonight, has become one of the city's most fun and educational nights out. DJs Christian Science, David James, Greasy, and Jon François Stone play only original-issue vinyl, and their serious commitment to sonic gem excavation pays huge dividends. Every time they get on the decks, they turn you on to at least a dozen new (old) phenomenal cuts that you need in your life. Lo-Fi, 9 pm, $5, 21+.

SUNDAY 3/6

SMUTRONICA CHAMPS LORDS OF ACID RETURN

Sweet Jesus on a pogo stick, Lords of Acid are still around? I lost track of them around 1997's Our Little Secret, but leader Praga Khan—probably rightly—sensed the time is ripe for a comeback. The Belgian electronic group—perhaps the least subtle musicians ever to plug in—inspired some genital crescendos in the 1980s and '90s with their blatantly XXX-otic lyrics and arena-ready acid-house choons. Don your finest fetish gear and bring some lube, fuckers. Studio Seven, 8 pm, $15 adv/$18 DOS, 21+.

MONDAY 3/7

HIPHOP SURREALIST OC NOTES

OC Notes is on the verge of significantly enlarging his profile in the Northwest this year. Everything this local hiphop producer has loosed on the internet so far has borne the stamp of ingenuity and intelligence (go here for proof: www.ocnotes .bandcamp.com). Notes' sonic palette encompasses wide swathes of textural and stylistic ground, with a tendency toward the surreal, jazzy, and spacey. And check "Mud Fight" from Alien Taxi Service and "Get On Up" off Doo Doo for examples of his extraordinary, odd funkentelechy. If you dig Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction, you ought to flip your wig for OC Notes, too. With Vox Mod, 5H1F7Y, and Electrosect. Chop Suey, 8 pm, $6, 21+.

TUESDAY 3/8

CRYSTAL CASTLES' TORONTO MAPLE BEATS

The tuneful Canadian electro-house duo Crystal Castles have a knack for sounding simultaneously sullen and uplifting. Their songs' infectious hooks, Alice Glass's devilish pixie voice, and Ethan Kath's peppy beats keep young bodies moving. Popularity ensues. With Suuns. Showbox Sodo, 8 pm, $25, all ages, sold out.
