This Place Blows

...and that tall security fuck with the stanky beard who booted me for taking one puff of pot off of a one hitter is a piece of shit who obviously has not been laid in quite some time. Also, fuck El Corazon in general. Irony is, after being in there for 10 minutes, I wanted to leave, I was sweating bullets. NO air flow at all. Smelled like shit. Was that CARPET on the floor. And you're booting me because I'M High. Fuck You. Your club sucks. Dicks.

El METALzon

This place is pure old school Metal...brutal by nature, with chainsaw and a "daddy's little girl" bib ...they will force feed the bullshit that spews from your mouth right back down your yuppie ass throat...they (bouncers and staff) have MUCH more IMPORTANT things to do than pamper your priggish self-righteous sack of flesh. You want customer service......go to the God damned Sheridan or better yet Crackdonald's. Your chump change isn't worth your weight in dog vomit and pig spit...you are replaceable.

Thank you El Corazon for the consistently amazing lineups.....and for "the hauling off" and "should be execution" beat down's you so gracefully bestow on the "trashed trash"....who otherwise would be annoying the shit out of me. By the way I've been kicked out for excessive drinking/ lack of control on gravity.... and guess who's going back for Sepultura and Belphegor with no butt hurt feelings...Mutha Fuckin Mandypants!! Smell the booze and B.O. reviewers....you sound like braying donkeys.

Security = PD Impersonators, Battery & assault

Went to go see our favorite band last night, SOJA (reggae music). During the show the big somoan security (who did not identify himself as such) thrashed into us multiple times trying to get to the front to grab someone else. After we said "Excuse me" the man told my boyfriend he was taking him outside...shined a flashlight to get the attention of another guard who came over and grabbed us. Again we were just dancing! Long story short, 3 guys ended up throwing my boyfriend to the ground in a choke hold and then restrained ME (110 lbs) in a choke hold, threw us out the door and threathened to knock me out!

Then...as we had already left and were sitting on the sidewalk down the street, 2 guys come back at us with handcuffs, telling us they were SEATTLE POLICE UNDERCOVER! So we ask for their badge, didnt show it and then the cops showed up.

THESE BOUNCERS DONT RESPECT ANYONE! They will be hearing from our lawyer.

Always been a good time

Been here dozens of times as El Corazon and its always been a good time. The place is dark and dank but that is just the rock appeal. Bought the $150 VIP this year and they have always gone the extra mile. Bartender Matt is the best!

Unfair treatment by the security

I have been going to the el corazon for years. Ive never had any issues with security at all until this friday. First of all, the event was oversold and they were turning people who had purchased tickets away. It was a ticketing glitch and they sold over 150 tickets past capacity. There was a sign for ticket holders in one line, and will call in another. My group who had tickets, and about 20 other people proceeded to the ticket holders line only to be greeted by a ego maniac bouncer who said " I dont know why the hell your standing here, that (pointing to the will call line) is the only line". One guy responded saying "well maybe you should take down this sign then" (pointing to the clearly posted sign. We got back in line and the bouncer ripped the sign down. I personally got in fine. I look back and my friend was being told that he couldnt bring in his camera. Again, understandable I suppose even though I ALWAYS bring a camera. I went back outside and politely asked the bouncer what we should do with it. He very rudely looked at me and said"I dont care what you do with it, its not my problem". Im sorry but there is no reason to be so rude. There were no signs posted about cameras and it wasnt on the ticket or the website. So now Im pissed. I realize they probably deal with assholes all night long, but I wasnt being rude at all. We came on the ferry and had absolutely no where to put it. I asked if I could leave it with someone and he just grinned at me and said "no, its not my problem". What the hell? Luckily, we did find a nice security guy that held on to it for us and we finally went it. We had a drink in the bar and the bartenders were super nice expecially for how busy they were. We go out on the floor and it was PACKED. It was a pretty rough crowd which is to be expected at a metal show. After one song, a security guard came into the crowd, grabbed my friend by the collar and started pushing him out. Everyone around us was yelling "what the hell?!" because he was literally doing nothing wrong. They THREW him out to the street with absolutely no explanation. Must be their way of fixing their oversold problem?? I found the bouncer with the camera and thanked him (wish I got his name because he was the only one there who had any sort of poeple skills) When I got outside, the place was crawling with police so we didnt push the issue and just left. So after paying $26 for essentially nothing, I will never return. And , after reading all these reviews, I guess this is pretty common there. The only reason Im rating this place 2 stars is because Ive had so many pleasant experiences in the past. But after being treated like shit and not a paying customer that has spend hundreds of dollars at this buisness, I will never be back.

2 stars at best

Ive, actually had some amazing shows on stage at elcorazone..thats where the second star comes in..
unfortunately my rating is grossly outweighed by the prison gaurd like complex..
My own manager was denied access on two different gig nights during early load in..
She explained that she had to set up our merch stand and was givin a (not my problem) by the bouncer "THOR"

And YESS! as a local band..we have payed to play by mostly selling 100 or 200 tickets at 10 a piece,
guess Seattle has shamefully come to forcing fans & artists into musical fema camps since we all have limited venue options these days.. but I'm sure i'll be drinkin more of their coolaid since they intimidate and monopolise local acts for the slight prestige in opening up for touring bands...

HELLO??? RESSESION!!!...my friendly Roman gaurds

THIS PLACE SUCKS!!

If you're a band, don't play here! If you're a fan, don't see shows here. The only way we can get this place to shut down, is to stop giving them our money. Pass the word on, don't go to El Corazon...ever!

NOLO CONTENDRE

I was contemplating going to a show there this weekend. With the OVERWHELMING negative reviews, I will NOT be attending. The management of this place should really take a look at these posts and do what good business people do. INVESTIGATE THE LEGITIMACY OF THE REVIEWS AND MAKE THE APPRORIATE CORRECTIONS............Based purely on these reviews and no comment by management, I will gladly take my business elsewhere.

El Shit a Zone

I have seen this venue through so many names. The Off Ramp, Sub Zero, The Graceland and now the present El Corazon. It saddens me that the security staff, door staff and owner have to treat people with total disrespect. I have many negative stories I could share but I'm not angry about it anymore. Numb is the only description I can currently give. At one point I would have fought tooth and nail to keep this place open, now I just don't care.

Bully Bouncers

Arrogant and incompetent are the most accurate words I can use to describe the bounce staff at El Corazon. My 2 friends ( a couple) and I were dancing at the Dillinger Escape Plan show last Saturday when without warning a large bouncer, with a huge chip on his shoulder, grabbed my guy friend by the back of his collar and drug him outside. We were left standing there dumbfounded. We went out to see what the problem was and the bouncer told us we were running into people. Keep in mind this was a metal show and running into people when the whole floor is a mosh pit is pretty much unavoidable. We did have a few drinks but were by no means belligerent. I’m still not sure how he decided which one of us to toss, but I could guess he had a problem with my guy friend hanging out with 2 girls and thought he’d get rid of him to show how tuff he was. Outside the bouncer refused to let my friend back in and was quite rude to all of us. I went back in the show and my friend and his girlfriend waited outside. The next time I went to check on them, my guy friend was handcuffed, face down on the pavement. The bounce staff said the police were on their way. I asked what he was being charged with, thinking maybe disorderly. They told me assault. I asked them who he hit and they said no one but he was getting in the face of the bouncer. Considering he was kicked out for dancing and the bounce staff let it escalate to the point of an arrest shows how incompetent they are at controlling even simple situations. There are plenty of reviews online that prove this. I would avoid this club if at all possible. They get one star because this form won't submit with zero.

A 100 megaton shitbomb of unjustifiable arrogance

I have never been treated with such disdain, bordering on contempt. The door guys were bitching about being at work when I walked in. The snack lady stared at me vacantly and cut me off to get back to her book. When I re-entered the venue I was stopped and harassed by the human pitbull doorman. The incompetent and unfriendly sound guys talked over and ignored us, moved my gear and around and basically treated me like another amp onstage. They made us sound like shit, and THEN cut our set short.

Spare yourself a headache. Don’t gratify these little twits by paying their hourly wage.

Never again

I went to El Corazon for the first time tonight and I have never encountered a ruder staff in my life. The bartender was great, but the rest were self righteous pricks. It was $10 and the sound was shit. There is really nothing redeeming about this club and I'm never going back. I hope it goes bankrupt and they put something better in the space; like a public toilet. If this is the only place a band is ever going to play in Seattle, you should drive to Portland and see them there.

Don't Play here!!!

This is Kai with "Screams Of Angels" and i highly recommend that you stay away from this venue.

We were 3rd in lineup for the Hammerfall show 3-24-2010, line up in order were as follows:

1 ~ Sword Of Judgment
2 ~ Helles
3 Screams Of Angels
4 ~ Powerglove
5 ~ Hammerfall

They had us "Pay-to-Play" here and had us sell 100 tickets.

Before they would let us play, (10 minutes before opening the doors) they told us we come up with all the monies or we do not play, this is after we had set up all our stuff already. (We were waiting for the rest of the monies to show up and did in just two minutes after that).

We were told that we would get a 45 minute set for selling these tickets, after we got there, they told us that we only had 20 minutes to play and our vocalist told him that the owner of the club told us 45 for selling the tickets and he said "that's out of my hands" and he (employee) went back inside and came back out and said we had 30 minutes instead. . .

The person taking the monies from our vocalist was very rude to him as well when dealing with the monies issue... i won't get into details... she must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed?

We finally got on stage, set up and started playing our 30 minute set (without the opening which gave us a few minutes more)and about 20 minutes into our set, the guy at the sound board stops us and says "I have to stop you guys right there, that's 30 minutes already".... we only played for maybe 20? We had two songs left to our 30 minute set (we timed it a few times during practices to make sure of our 30 minute and 45 minute sets).

For my part, i was nice to everyone i came in contact with though i did not receive the same from most of the employees, one in particular i did and i appreciated that.

As far as I'm concerned, the amount of people who were there was estimated around the same if not more people for the "Metal Shop" show we did there months before and that head count was about 175 so I'm guessing that there may have been around 200 plus or minus a few heads so we sold about 1/3 to 1/2 half of the show and to be treated like that, I believe we deserve an apology from the staff and owner of El Corazone.

This group of people acted very unjustly and did not hold up to what had been said by the owner of this establishment.

No Problem Here

I've been to El Corazón twice now and found both times to be very enjoyable. I had no problem getting my press pass either time - the guy working the front even personally walked me to the side stage and said "let me know if anyone gives you a hard time". Not one person has. I like hanging out in the quiet bar when shows let out, too. Oh and the lighting doesn't suck - which I can't say about all of the Seattle venues :)

El Crappazone

This place used to be cool back when lived here in the 90's. Now it is a joke. My friend got thrown out for allegedly stepping on someones toes up front by the stage during a Bad Brains show. It seems to me that these jerk offs are just looking for any reason to throw people out. Not good for business. Check out boycottelcorazon.com to tell your story and read others.

Come on EC, music is supposed to be fun!!!

So it goes, we want to go see music to escape the general negativity in society. It is OUR little haven to do so. And like everyone else commenting on this, I can name some venues in town where we can do just that. But at the El Corazon, with it's concentration camp style security, it is IMPOSSIBLE to feel at ease at all!!! Don't even THINK about dancing and letting loose to your favorite band. You'll have some self righteous power tripping "security" douchebag dragging you out of the place before you can even say "I have a tab at the bar!!!" Seriously: Fuck this place. Keeping the place safe from rowdy showgoers is one thing, but making show goers feel UNSAFE in the presence of the ones supposedly there to make it safe is just bullshit. Join the UFC and leave us music lovers alone!!!!!!!!!

*******Bro Almost Died!!!******

On October 3 my brother-in-law went to see Undertow and after a confrontation with the security came home with a bruised forehead and a sore side. On Monday his spleen burst. After losing half his blood and many hours in surgery they removed all his spleen. He could have easily left behind his wife and beautiful baby boy.

Think before you enter this venue - it could be your last!

In my 20 years of gigging I’ve always gotten my shit off stage quickly to pack up backstage so the next band could get on stage quickly. They call that “courtesy.” Most venues understand this and provide the bands at least a small corner to move their gear to so they can pack up and enjoy the rest of the show.

But at el Corazon this weekend, they made me take my drums out to the sidewalk corner to break down and pack up. They even shoved my volunteer roadie and threw a fit when I tried to go get my drum cases. Not to mention they were grabbing my drums too.

I was pissed. When I questioned this policy and asked them why I wasn’t told about this at load in, they kicked me out and told me I couldn’t come back in.

Take your drums out to the street corner to break down?!?!? WTF?!?!? Really?!?!? Even after we pre-sold $300 worth of tickets.

Breaking down a drum kit on the street corner with homeless people watching you is fucking insulting. What an absolutely ridiculous policy. There was no reason I couldn’t take my drums off stage to break down and pack up backstage. There was PLENTY of room.

So, I stood on the street corner next to my drums and had a cigarette while a friend went and got my truck four blocks down and a band mate went in to get my cases.

When I told the manager it was a bullshit policy and that no one explained the policy to me during load in, he pulled out the arrogant “We have touring bands coming through, etc.” bullshit. So, my volunteer roadie says to the manager, “Yes… But, have you noticed that the touring bands never play here twice.”

Needless to say, I missed the rest of the show.

Not only does this place suck as bad as described above, they actually sell assigned seating to some shows, and then completely screw you over.

We had assigned seats front row center to the tune of $75 a pop. Guess what? Somehow that translates to fourth row crapola with your group not even together anymore and a threat of ejection if you try to take the seats your tickets say you have.

This place is not just a dirty, dingy, exhaust filled hole, it's also a fraud.

After arriving one hour late because our tickets had the wrong start time my friends and I went in for some drinks. We drank and tipped very well. Then proceeded to the show. After several underage patrons tried to remove me from the pit by windmill swings and a roundhouse kick to the face, which I gladly recieved, I was approached and cornered by all so called security. Instead of being escorted to the door, I was taken to a corner by security and then spotlighted so all thier little boyfriends could try and get in my face. I gladly left and will NEVER return. I don't advise any bands or anyone looking for a good show to go there.

Witnessing unprovoked physical threat from the “security” staff to three different patrons on the same night (including hand around neck and punching the chest) I’ve decided never to visit this venue again. I can’t change the behavior of males in a heightened testosterone state, in fact I think it safer to stay out of their way. Psycholinguistics has a case study with the males who call themselves “security” at El Corazon, or we simply change the meaning of the words. At El Corazon, “Security staff” could mean “Feral adults”. I know of a person who was unduly kicked out so he wrote the band. The person who was punched in the chest wrote the owner of EC and received a nasty reply…though maybe “security” intervened and answered first. Let your favorite Bands know what is happening, write your story, don’t put up with bullies, don't get hurt, don’t support a venue that doesn’t support you.

Least favorite venue in Seattle

I have yet to personally know someone who looks forward to a show at this venue. More times than not, I have to wheel and deal to get friends to join me for a show at this place. The staff situation has gotten slightly better but all in all, I can say that I've had ONE good experience out of the 20 or so times I've been there. Too many negative stories to list...

El Crapyzone

I don't care if the sound and lighting is bad, I don't care if the fire control system leaks on your head while you watch a show, I don't care about the broken urinals in the bathroom. What I do care about is the jackass door staff fucking with customers. They will make up a reason to boot you out and using their tiny bit of authority keep you out and threaten you. Talk about small penis complex.

My buddy Savonna & I were there to see The Vandals, and went to grab a drink at the bar... when we showed our ID's the little dude took hers and said it was a fake!!! We already had a few drinks down the road so we agreed to avoid wasting time in the bar and asked for her ID back. They said the only way we could get it back is if we could bring in 4 more proofs of ID including a birth certificate! WHAT? We live in Sultan!!! So we hauled ass back to Sultan, grabbed as much "proof" that we could and got back in time to miss half the show! Power hungry control freaks! Avoid the broken heart, it's staff are all freakin' apes.

The staff was a bunch of self serving elitist skinhead mentality types every time I've been there.....

sucky suck sucky el corazon

I too remember when this place was the Off ramp and it was the most fun club in Seattle... now, it's the same place but not fun at all, especially if you're a local band playing here. My band played three shows in the lounge (we NEVER got paid, even when there were people there) and the staff is the rudest staff in seattle. They actually kicked everyone out of the place at midnight or before at all three shows, even on Cinco De Mayo! And they were NOT friendly about kicking everyone out at all... One of my fave bands from California played a Monday night lounge show there and same thing... the soundman pulled the plug on them at 11:30 and the rude staff kicked everyone out. Most bars stay open til 2:00 AM... all in all the el corazon sucks big time, mainly because of the rude and arrogant staff.

quit your bitching

iam an avid music fan who stakes his clame in seattle! when i was younger the graceland was one of the only shows that you could be up close and personal with your favorite, punk, metal, or any other type of band. i love the packed venue, would u rather go to studio seven where theres to much room to start a good pit, or how about the showbox that u cant even get with in 5 or 10 feet of the stage? thats no fun, i want to run up on stage jump around and jump off! i want loud, fast, and pist off music! i wana get hit in the face in the pit! and if your to old, and complain about the sound quality, or the room? than dont go to a metal or punk show ass hole! u know theres gna be crazy ass kids running in circles trying there damndest to knock you the fuck out!! i know i would!!!! so suck it up and either go and put up with us or go see a damn opera!!!

Bring back the Offramp

Actually I don't have any problems with the sound or the stage they do a pretty good job in that department. I just think their "security" crew are a bunch of little facist thugs. Definite napoleon complex's one and all. Those little agro guys should find different jobs maybe as abusive babysitters or gym teachers. There favorite MO seems to be; let the bartender over-serve a bunch of Knuckleheads then after they pay for their round of shots, the enforcer jumps in knocks the drinks out of their hands and bum rush them to the door. These guy's are worse than cop wannabees they are mall-security wannabees.

el corazon

Its lame. The sound is horrible the lay out is backwards the stage should be at the south end of the room. It used to be the graceland when it changed hands maybe they could have addressed the situation better, very typical seattle the city that decided to discuss the monorail expansion 30 years later. The owners should go to San Francisco and check out the Great american music hall, or the independent.

Just Sad

From a band's perspective the place sucks. How lame is it that after the first band has played they can't simply remove their gear from the stage, they have to drag it all out to the sidewalk. Of course, that means they have to pack it all up in their van and drive away (along with their friends). Stupid. 2nd and 3rd band don't get the benefit of 1st band's peeps. And so it goes for the 2nd band, until the last band plays - to only it's own people. It's bad for the bands, it's bad for the bar sales (I would hazard to guess), and it simply isn't fun - especially since the staff seem to be nothing more than surly and bitter Appalachia Jr. High School dropouts. The reason it's so sad is that the former Off Ramp didn't used to be that way. There's absolutely no reason bands can't simply stack their shit in the corner and hang out with the friends that came to see them while watching the other band's sets. That's what was done there back in the Off Ramp days until after the last band played when "Hash after the Bash" was served. Those were fun times and it's still a great room. Now? Pathetic.

Its a True Metal Venue

yeah the corazon is small, its gets ridiculously hot, the music is always ear blisteringly loud, but isn't that half the fun of going to a show? its a small venue where you can see relatively big bands not two feet in front of you, there is no 5 foot buffer zone where you can't get right up to the band... this is a intimate little club that caters to heavy metal people... and johnny pettibone and the security crew have always done a fine job on the more than two dozen occaisions i've had the pleasure of seeing shows there... its a great venue if you're there to do more than just stand in the back and pout...

Bad in all aspects

Terrible ventilation, terrible lighting (you feel like your photos are taken every second), terrible sound. It's almost impossible to tell which piece the band is playing. On the other hand the small size makes you feel you're at home and band's just come over with their friends. You might get a warm feeling from that. I think the last Arch Enemy concert was a disaster.

Awesome

My friend just played his first gig there on the 27th. They did awesome, and as small as El Corazon is, it was fun.

A black hole where there once was a heart.

I also have witnessed innocent folk get tossed out, and have seen a band member get harassed and thrown out over a legit complaint, and it took 20 minutes for him to get his instrument back. The band did get paid(I hear),but I was there to see them and was not given a refund. As for me personally, I am unimpressed by the layout. I can never find a comfortable place to stand, and am freaked out about the over population and horrid bathroom facilities. Are you joking? The Ladies room looks like a rat nest with all the overflowing paper towels. Everytime! Guiness in a tiny plastic cup? I waited in line for this? Low dripping ceilings, sticky floors, and packed like sardines.I hope to HELL that the bands that play there start looking for better venues. El C., get it together.

Worse then a fist in the anus

"El Corrosion" is by far the worst venue in the seattle area. Bands would do as well to their fans by performing at home, as little as fans can see or hear their show. The sound engineers must either be deaf or using equipment designed for soap commercials from the 1940's, judging by the hollow tinny sound quality that the venue is so famous for. The performance space is so poorly engineered that there truly Isn't a GOOD seat in the house. If there was enough room to move on the dance-floor you'd still have trouble peeling your feet off the encrusted sweat, beer, and god only knows? Their non-segregated "all ages" status, has every patron uncomfortable, from teenagers being felt up by drunken frat kids, to adults, being throttled by pre-pubescent hormone filled roid-ragers, while being "baby-sat" like infants, by the staff. The El Corazon "security" staff, employing bouncers with egos larger then their thyroid problems, has no problem over filling the venue, to the point that over 40% of the audience can neither see nor hear the show, but after receiving admission from their customers have been know to eject; patrons for "looking at them the wrong way" and EVEN going so far as EJECTING BAND MEMBERS, during performances. I assume most bars at least make it their policy to be sure their staff had at least graduated from their J.r. high-school, however perhaps TEC's "all ages" policy also applies to the mental capacity of their employees.
