I don't find this (or the original post) infuriating; they're just unfunny and unnecessary. Certainly not worthy of death threats either, but, hey, whatever.

For an "imaginary band" (makes no sense like most of both articles written in this paper) they sure sold a hell of a lot of records and sold out a lot of venues around the world for concerts. Considering at one point they outsold the Rolling Stones and Beatles combined, the imagination must run pretty wild. Also to back up your hatred towards the show which was made 45 years ago and is still popular, by going off on how the members who are between 66-70 years old for their looks in old age proves the thinness of your argument and that your article, supposed to be telling folks about the old shows playing at a local theater in honor of Davy Jones who recently died, was just an opinion smear piece with no journalistic value. I do not agree with other fans of making death threats over this, and I have never had any interest in your paper to start with, but all I've seen is immature, unprofessional trash being printed to obviously stir up a fan base and hope to get a reaction for your own recognition and pleasure. By your standard of wrinkly messed up looking peeps, I assume that the Rolling Stones with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were even worse of an imaginary band. Considering what seems to pass for your sense of humor, it does not surprise me in the least that you don't find the original show funny.

I COMPLETELY support the outrage and complains you received for your Blurb,

The death threats?? Just as uncalled for as your comments.

One thing is true... You (Ryan) Sir, are Classless, & Ignorant.

And as someone said on their email to you.. Peter(musician, singer, song writer), Micky(TV, Theater actor and director, musician, singer, song writer), Mike (GodFather of none other than MTV, Emmy winner, musician, singer-song writer, novelist, actor, tv&movie Producer, director, Multi-media Entrepreneur) and Davy(Theater/Tv actor, singer, songwriter, and all around Entertainer) have MORE talent in their pinky finger then YOU will ever have.

And the fact that they are still remembered and their music, (YES, THEIR MUSIC.. Headquarter & the HEAD Soundtrack are SOLE proof of that.. AT LEAST HAVE THE DECENCY TO DO SOME RESEARCH B4 YOU TYPE AWAY) Speaks volumes of their Legacy.

You should be so fortunate to have that impact, if any, on any one's life.

Wow no need to throw your toys out of the pram Ryan . . .seems a rather childish response and doesn't make you look any better after your first articles - also picking on appearances is very shallow and unintelligent . . says about about you i think

Why so much Monkees hate? That's what got you guys into trouble in the first place. People take music seriously, much like religion. Don't expect to dis someones beliefs and expect it to go over ok.

I heard The Stranger was writing factually accurate pieces based on the ugliness of the Monkees and got here as fast as I could.

The Stranger just gets dumber and dumber. There are any number of journalism and communications majors who would love to have the job this smug, precious hipster is occupying; someone willing to write something intelligent, informative, maybe even satirical and witty, and do it ten times better than these bored kids who spend ten minutes tossing off a column before heading out for a night of cocaine and malt liquor. I never thought I'd say this, but the Weekly is a much better read now.

Stranger, for the love of God please go back in your archives to the mid to late nineties and see how this paper used to be written.

Yeah, not good. There are probably three people in existence who feel passionately enough about the Monkees to find either end of this fun/offensive, and I'll bet that they don't read The Stranger.

Distinctly NOT funny and NOT clever. Seriously. Nothing better to write about? Sad. Just sad. Usually I like the Stranger, but this is shameful.
