Jaume Plensa: Echo: The big white head on the Seattle waterfront is bound to catch your attention sometime, so you may as well have an intentional look for yourself. A tranquil, blind, mute female—she’s named Echo, after the Greek mythic character whose voice is taken away from her—is disturbing, and it's no suprise she seems calm and peaceful. She’s a perfect reflection of a culture shaped by violence against women. She rises from the context of #YesAllWomen, though the 59-year-old male Spanish artist who created her, Jaume Plensa, didn’t mean her that way at all.
