Bonkers! continues its fierce hot streak: Tonight the monthly experimental dance music crew—Ian Scot Price, Eric Wardisko, Eric Moon, and Chris Phillips—brings in Beatwife. You may know Beatwife (aka LA/England producer Richard Wilson, aka Burnkane) for his work in the duo Misty Conditions, who released the dark and rugged mutant-trap album D'zzzz on Planet Mu last year. They managed the tricky feat of making a record that sounds simultaneously sinister and whimsical. As Beatwife, Wilson channels that madly acidic, kinetic, and spasmodic "braindance" steez that Rephlex Records minted in the '90s with genii like Squarepusher and Ceephax Acid Crew. On a much different tip, Seattle's Big Phone (aka Kenric McDowell) just dropped ;) for Knightriders Recordings, a three-track EP of epic, questing techno. It's very rare for a producer to trigger thoughts of Porter Ricks's pitch-black heroin house and the serpentine, ascending techno of Ricardo Villalobos, but that's what Big Phone's done with his latest recording.
