Restaurant Roux is the sit-down place from Where Ya at Matt's Matthew Lewis, named after the combination of hot butter and flour that starts out lots of recipes in his native New Orleans. At Roux, which is where the Buckaroo Tavern used to be, you can expect the same food that made Matt's truck famous—from jambalaya and gumbo to beignets and pecan pie—plus some fancier French Creole–inspired stuff. Chef Mikey Robertshaw came from Local 360, where his work got good reviews until he was reportedly fired for being too loud in the open kitchen, but once you taste his and Lewis's food, you won't care about anybody shouting.

Roux's Ruse

Last night, we dined at Roux. At least some of did. With a party of six we did the usual, ordered the drinks, appetizers and the main plate. Noisy and very active, the main dishes arrived, at least five of them did. Finally called the server over and asked about the remaining unserved dish. Was Carbonara ordered and, finally, flavored pasta paste served. Not good. The Deviled Eggs and Oysters were tasty but beware the large plate selection. Not timely, not tasty.

Best beignets in the world. Maybe universe.

Can't stop eating shrimp and grits, hushpuppies, greens & frites. Need Roux rehab. Peacemaker, creole pork poboys are MUSTS at lunch. Then they went and made the best meatball sub in the city. It's even my go-to place for coffee now (Herkimer-yum) and pasta! Their pasta is incredible at dinner. Brunch. Don't get me started. My favorite so far has been Ramos gin fiz and the pork belly Benedict with brown bread. And chicken and waffles. Clearly, I'm a huge fan!
