Santa's Crack

Our bittersweet music writers on the subculture of Christmas cheer. PLUS: Holiday Hits!

The holidays are always a bittersweet time for those of us who feel left out. But the holidays can be made fun and exciting for even the loneliest among us, if we learn to examine what exists outside of the holiday margins. Sure, what we've all come to know as the "spirit of Christmas" lacks any real definition or substance. And yes, it's easy to grow bitter when you literally feel as though you are being asphyxiated by Santa's little elf year in and year out. The trick is to ignore the little elf and look in Santa's crack, because that's where all the magic happens. Find out what exists in those out-of-the-way places, and you're that much closer to finding true meaning and beauty in what is otherwise nothing but hype.
