Worst Venue in Seattle

I have seen two shows here and I have to say this is the worst venue I have every seen a concert at. If it weren't for the fact that the second band I wanted to see was a must, I would not have gone. Don't think I'll be stupid enough to see a show here again regardless of the appeal the band has to me.

1. The stage is so low the front row is staring at the performers belly button. Even within 20 feet of the stage it is a struggle to see anything. I stand at 5'10" and I could barely keep track of anything on stage, my girlfriend couldn't see anything at all. You can stand ANYWHERE in the venue and you get a crap view. The back of the venue in the bar is about the clearest view if you can get one of the 20 places to stand between all the damn columns in the way.

2. The sound is AWFUL. The speakers are largely at floor level. We were a bit side stage and the bass was so strong, it was making me cough and my ears feel like they were going to bleed. Went to the bar to watch the show and it sounded like I was listening from outside on the street. Everywhere in between is garbage too.

3. The venue is right near all the stadiums. If there are games going on the night of the show, have a total blast trying to find a damn place to park.

I pray this place is torn down when the new stadium goes in. At least then, if another great band comes to town, they will be forced to play somewhere else. I won't be back again. To see another great band in this crap venue would be just another huge disappointment.

The worst venue I've ever been to and the WORST security/staff ever!!

Security at The Showbox Sodo are a bunch of horrible, mean people with awful attitudes and worse customer service. They are rude! They don't deal diplomatically with customers and use screaming and cussing to get their point across, YUCK! They are on super huge power trips in their miserable, low paying "jobs." The venue is terrible, unless you are in the front row or are 7 feet tall you can't the stage or anyone on it. My first visit there was also my last!

And yes I would actually give this place ZERO stars if possible!

I would give no stars if I could

Went to see Danzig the other night and my boyfriend got kicked out because he was lightly bumping/pushing people to start a friendly pit. Is it not expected that people are going to be a little agressive at a Danzing show, its not like it was an Adam Lambert concert. The security staff were a bunch of loser power tripping fatsos that take their aggression of making minimum wage out on the people that are trying to have a good time. The police state crack down is now being carried out by stupid moronic security guards at show venues (you also get molested upon entrance to the show) I will never, ever go to Showbox Sodo again, I would rather travel to Portland than give my money to a crap venue like this with crap staff members with crap attitudes.

Great Place

I've seen many shows there, And i've had a great experience everytime. The security was quite plesent to talk with, the management seemed to be out to help others too, The sound wasent the best, But compared to what the premier had its a definite improvement. I had no real issue getting drinks, sure the bars are full but the bartenders were quick, I find this place to be great.

Great venue, well thought-out

This place was expressly designed for fans of live music, and musicians themselves. Look at the space behind the bar for the bartenders to work a crowded room. Look for a bad sight line - sorry, they don't exist. There are no posts in the middle of the room to have to look around a la Croc or Showbox Mkt. Out back, the load-in is easy-peasy for artists and crew alike.
The sound is usually awesome, too. Sure, it's not "centrally located." But then, it's not centrally located. It just makes Hooverville a bit of a clusterf*** before and after. But I'd rather wait in line there than the Pike Brewery.

It's too bad because

I dig most of the shows that the Showbox books and I dig the Showbox Market venue but the Showbox Sodo just makes me feel like I'm standing in a Wal-Mart. Okay for raves and techno sets but dreadful for anything with instruments.

Previous reviewer a victim of own shitty attitude

I've attended and played shows at this venue. It's a great place that would do a much larger business if it were more centrally located. Staff and management are very professional and friendly and the drink and food menus leave little to be desired. House sound makes any act shine a bit brighter.
