A small watering hole that's been around in one incarnation or another since 1937, Tim's is a self-billed “retro dive bar” with purple neon lights, darts, billiards, live music, open mic nights, and a wide-screen TV. There's nothing condescendingly sleek or pricey here, just a neighborhood joint for hanging out.

good old-fashioned tavern

I grew up with an Irish-American dad, and was used to going to taverns with him, where the locals would welcome me. The places he went to were friendly, and never felt creepy or dangerous or sleazy or desperate. This is the feeling I get at Tim's Tavern: not where people go just to drink, but to socialize and spend time together.
