Green star Twilight Exit (Central District)

Now in its third location, the Twilight remains as great as ever in terms of hanging-colored-orb light fixtures, '70s decor, from-scratch diner-style food (including chicken-fried bacon!?), and cheap/strong drinks—that is, really pretty great. The Twilight is also still the perfect place to sing Pat Benatar when they're doing karaoke.

Yep, they serve food.

The Stranger guide doesn't think they do, but they do. They also have an outdoor patio, though sadly it has to close at 9 to keep the neighbours happy.

Pretty good bar food too. Exotic dangerous treats such as chicken fried bacon. Burgers and sandwiches for the less adventurous. Put also salads and entrees. My favorite is the chicken cobb salad.

Bye

so it used to be that we would go down there all of us and take the pool table over tho really we can't play worth nothing! but we had a thing were we put down the names of all the palin babies on the chalkboard and it was grand. because many of the regulars cant read so we leve each others alone. but then the bros started coming in there seahawks parpheranalia and they were like which one of you is bristol? and then they got all up in my friends face for NO REASON and when we left we totally reeked of the kind of colone even the queens at macys wouldnt steal from work to mask the smell of there cats litter boxes. so now they hear they are knocking it down. so GOOD RIDDANCE!

Relaxin' at the Twilight

Twilight Exit is an example of a dying breed, the true neighborhood bar. This is a place where people go to drink, relax, talk, and hang with friends. It is not about seeing/being seen, and since there is no "scene" it draws a variety of people who don't have to worry about fitting in. Most of the crowd tends to be young, but there are also long time neighborhood residents and retirees, and no one has to worry about getting the death stare from the terminally hip. With the spacious rambling interior and paneled walls it has a basement reck room or clubhouse feel, and it's large enough that even if the bar or one of the couch sitting areas is crowded you can still find a quiet corner to read a book while sipping your beer. It's not a place you would order a mojito (there are enough of those around) but the standard drinks are well made, there's a variety of tap beers (and Olympia in cans), a lengthy Happy Hour, and above average bar food. With so many bars striving to artifically orchestrate some particular vibe, its great that the Twilight Exit is what it is, and makes no apologies. May it be around forever.

Hipster Haven/Neighborhood Dive

I really like this bar. It's authentic for the CD but draws Capitol Hill regulars. I posted about my visits there at here: http://chtriangle.blogspot.com/2007/12/twilight-exit.html
