For weeks, the most talked about anchor at Fox News has been silent about the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Gretchen Carlson against Roger Ailes.

Until now.

Gabriel Sherman reports:

Kelly’s comments to investigators might explain why the Murdochs are moving so quickly to oust Ailes. As New York reported yesterday, Rupert and sons James and Lachlan, the three top executives at 21st Century Fox, have, according to multiple sources, decided that Ailes needs to be removed. Kelly, who has become something of a feminist icon thanks to her tangles with GOP nominee Donald Trump, is seen by many inside Fox as the future of the network. She’s currently in contract negotiations, and given that Bill O’Reilly has said he’s considering retirement, Fox can’t afford to lose her.

According to two sources, Monday afternoon lawyers for 21st Century Fox gave Ailes a deadline of August 1 to resign or face being fired for cause.

Wow.

Fox News without Roger Ailes or Bill O'Reilly would almost be a completely new Fox News. Good riddance. And Megyn Kelly deserves to be the future of the network. She's tough, she works hard, and if the reports are true, she's had to put up with unbelievable shit not just from the people she covers ("blood coming out of her wherever") but also from her boss. Allegedly.

Ailes has denied all charges so far, and many other anchors at the network who aren't as high-profile as Kelly say the charges about Ailes aren't true. Then again, many of those people are men. Like Neil Cavuto, who wrote, "These accusations that don't remotely resemble the Roger that I know — that WE know — are just ... sick."

That's one way to defend against sexual harassment charges. Another is to do what Donald Trump did after Megyn Kelly asked him in a debate why he calls women "fat pigs," "dogs," and "disgusting animals." Trump said: "It's fun, it's kidding, we have a good time."

I just watched the infamous clip again and I totally forgot about the part when Trump threatened her right there on camera: "Honestly Megan, if you don't like it, I'm sorry, I've been very nice to you, although I could maybe not be based on the way you've treated me, but I wouldn't do that." So he said, right before going off to tweet about blood coming out of her vagina.

Seriously, Murdoch boys: Ailes is out? Put Megyn Kelly in charge.
