I don't view Gary Johnson's Aleppo gaffe as disqualifying all by itself. Remember when Obama said he'd visited 57 states during the 2012 campaign? Campaigning for president is physically and mentally exhausting—arguably more exhausting than actually presidenting—and candidates are allowed one and two brain farts/blanks at this stage.

What disqualifies Johnson is his dangerous/glibertarian/NRA-fellating position on guns—and his gun-nutty, obfuscating rage when pressed on his position on guns. Listen to Johnson blow up when David Remnick asks the Libertarian presidential candidate about guns on the New Yorker Radio Hour. Remnick asks Johnson about guns around the 12:00 minute mark. A transcript won't do the exchange justice, dear reader, so you'll have to listen. Note how Remnick repeatedly follows up, refusing to allow Johnson to duck or deflect his questions. Remnick refuses to let Johnson weasel out of answering a question about whether school teachers should be allowed to carry guns in classrooms. (Spoiler: Johnson believes teachers should be "free" to carry guns in school—including automatic rifles, presumably, which Johnson seems to think should be sold in vending machines in airports.) Johnson even attempts the "Don't quote me, bro!" dodge but Remnick won't let him get away with it.

Swoon.

Clearly Remnick should've moderated last night's Commander-In-Chief forum, not the hapless Matt Lauer.
