Maybe I was too far away to enjoy it, or maybe it was because the radio with us in the apartment wasn't cooperating and letting us listen to the music along with it, or maybe because when the president is a racist asshat it's harder to overlook the colonialist genocidal underpinning of the founding of the U.S. and thus harder to celebrate its birthday with explosives, or maybe it's because of that crack in Antarctica's ice shelf and the impending environmental doom that makes any wasteful air pollution seem like too much, but something about those fireworks last night left me cold.

That said, I loved the New Year's fireworks at the Space Needle, so I'm a hypocrite. Anyway, the best thing I saw in lights last night? The quotation marks on this sign at Seattle First Baptist.
