Car-Loving Seattle Times Endorses Jenny Durkan for Mayor Because She Will "Deliver on Potholes": And she is not keen on raising taxes, and also our city has been tested like never before by "four years of pedal-to-the-floor policy experiments under departing Mayor Ed Murray and a City Council that increasingly veers to the left." The grumps of Seattle Times wasted no time throwing Murray under the bus.
But as I have said before, in the larger perspective, pot holes make positive contributions to the city. They slow cars the fuck down, and they also damage fast cars. In the larger perspective, the one that includes the very high social costs of climate change and speeding vehicles, a road with pot holes is much better than one without any.
City Council Likely to Approve Income Tax That Would Help Trump-Proof Seattle: The proposed tax is at a rate of 1.5 percent and would affect "individuals earning $250,001 or more, and families earning $500,001 or more in Seattle." The money made from the tax—an estimated $125 million annually—will provide the city protection from a president who is rabidly anti-urban, more pro-car than even the Seattle Times, and a climate denier. Councilmember Kshama Sawant boiled the whole movement down to "tax the rich," which is correct but also antagonistic. The Seattle Transit Riders Union were smart to word the tax as a civic duty: “Trump Proof Seattle.” You love this city, you believe in science, and you know you must do your part in this time of trouble.
Members of Friends of the Market Say Cars Should Not Be Banned from the Pike Place Market Because That Would Make the Place More Like a Mall: This rubbish was published in the Seattle Times. It begins by painting the car onto the history of Pike Place Market. This is the image: people selling and buying things, wagons and trucks carrying produce and products, and cars. According to Sara Patton and Joan Singler, it has been like this since 1907. The market is a place with a soul, and the car has been a part of it. Giving the market over to pedestrians would be "the kiss of death." Cars are the fuck of life for the friends of the market.
Two Men Shot in South Seattle: All we know so far about one of the men is he fought for his life at Harborview Medical Center and lost. The other man was wounded. The shooting happened across the street from a popular playground in Rainier Playfield. On Sunday afternoons, it's not unusual to find me drinking wine on the bench by the bushes that face the basketball courts next to the playground.
Naked Man on a Boat Shot and Killed By Bainbridge Island Police: According to KOMO, the whole bad business began around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday with a man "firing shots from a boat anchored in the waters of Eagle Harbor." By 12:30 p.m., he was dead. The police claim that, after a standoff, the naked man on the boat pointed a rifle at them and they opened fire. He was hit, he died, and his boat was removed from the harbor on Sunday morning.
On Sunday Morning, Donald Trump Tweeted: "Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded ... and safe." Because this revelation freaked out even Republicans, by Sunday night, Trump tweeted: "The fact that President Putin and I discussed a Cyber Security unit doesn't mean I think it can happen..." The morning tweet is like a dog taking a crap; the second, like the same dog trying to kick dust on his crap. And dogs always do this kicking business with a head that's raised and proud-ish.
As All of This Was Going On: The New York Times dropped this bomb on the Trump Show: "Trump Jr. Met Russian for Dirt on Clinton." And Trump Jr. even admitted that he did meet with a Russian to get something on "crooked Hillary," but it turned out to be nothing. Therefore, he did nothing wrong. The NYT learned of the meeting from a source who had access to confidential government documents. Trump Sr. blamed the former head of the FBI, James Comey, for the leak.
James Comey leaked CLASSIFIED INFORMATION to the media. That is so illegal!

And Now For Some Realizm: Climate change will not be a walk in the park. Many will die because nothing was done when something could have been done.
