About 34 acres of land in Magnolia sits unused. The city could acquire the land, a former military site called Fort Lawton, from the federal government for free if it agrees to use it for affordable housing. But as Heidi Groover reported in December, neighbors fiercely oppose the city's plan to build 238 apartments, row houses, and townhouses at the site.

Tonight at 6 p.m, the city holds its first public hearing over the housing proposal. We're streaming the event with Facebook Live until our arm gets tired.
