I asked the people behind Seattle's #BlackLivesMatterFriday protest (starting at 1 pm at Westlake Park) to tell me a little bit more about the idea.

"The reason it is called BlackLivesMatterFriday," an anonymous e-mailer told me in response, "is because black lives and everyone's life for a matter of fact is more important than shopping and getting [the] next cheap deal. SO WE NEED TO COME together AND BE UNITED AS ONE AGAINST injustice, racism, oppression, police brutality and also, get JUSTICE FOR MIKE BROWN."

I asked whether this group is affiliated with any of the other local groups that have been protesting the Ferguson decision in particular, and police brutality in general. The answer: "NOPE."
