The special guests at this extra-special dead-of-winter silent reading party are four handsome gents. Kyle O’Quin will be playing a Chopin-heavy set on the piano while you sit there and drink and read to yourself whatever you feel like reading, and he’ll be joined for one Beethoven sonata by cellist Sam Anderson. The other special guests—who will just sit there and read along with everyone else—are artist Greg Lundgren (who won a Genius Award in 2003) and my boss Dan Savage (who invented the Genius Awards). Come early! Last time, it was so crowded that people were sitting on cushions on the floor. (Sorrento Hotel, 900 Madison St, 622-6400, 6–9 pm, free, all ages) by Christopher Frizzelle

Given that the past few SRPs have been beyond capacity, this feels a bit like when the Stranger Suggests a sold out concert.

So, suburban queen if there was going to be an offshoot in the south king county area, where would you suggest? My first thought is that one of the hotels in the strip by the airport would probably have a nice space.

Yeah, the Silent Reading Party has outgrown the Sorrento. Also the waitresses are fucking loud.

I also meant to add that across the street from the airport is not only sort of central to south king county, but that it also puts it near pretty decent public transportation and a well stocked cab stand.

The room was at capacity before 5:30, there is probably STILL a line out the door (You're waiting in line? For the privilege of being seen reading in public?) and as of 6:20, it was still loud with people tittering amongst themselves.

What the hell, Seattle?
