When a race war breaks out at a prestigious university, we get to backtrack to see what set it all off. Four black students try to navigate the Ivory Tower and figure out where they fit in while also trying to dismantle a racist frat party. There are some parts of this movie that feel like very early Spike Lee in a way that is both outrageous and like it is holding a finger squarely on the pulse of black America, but it’s a smart and incisive commentary on race that everyone should see.
