‘Klara Glosova: Life on the Sidelines’

Why: These six five-foot-long watercolor paintings could all bleed into a single painting, if it weren’t for their minute variations. The scene: adults standing on the sidelines of a kids’ soccer game, viewed straight-on from a single point behind them. No goal is being scored. Nobody’s cheering. If the adults’ attention is drawn, we don’t see to what. There are only near-strangers standing in a row—just like last weekend, just like the one ahead. Good art has proved time and again that the banal is still not without wonder, and this show is a terrific example of that tradition.
