In 2010, El Paso–born, Seattle-based artist George Rodriguez traveled across 26 countries in Asia, South America, and Europe over eight months on a fellowship. Dreams of what he saw are still leaving deposits on the thickly decorative surfaces of his ceramics, and this new show is devoted to roadside memorials as well as those little displays of flowery ebullience that people install at the cold graves of those they still love. Rodriguez’s works sometimes appear to have been rescued from underground, like ancient ruins, and brought up to sprout out of new walls and floors.
