Flight of the Conchords mine several musical genres for comedy
gold—and platinum, when they’re really on. The New Zealand duo
(Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement) use rap, folk, French pop, and
rock ‘n’ (d)roll as springboards for lyrical satire and
cliché inversions that inspire laughs with nearly every verse.
Creating humorous songs that can withstand more than a few listens is
incredibly difficult. FOTC’s hit-to-miss ratio is phenomenal.
