The Mexican-style hot chocolate served at Oddfellows sounds simple enough: warm milk, Guittard chocolate, and spicy spices topped with a fluffy homemade marshmallow pillow. But this drink, which was surely invented by a tubby, sugar-coated child prodigy, is creamy without being overly rich, and its subtle chili heat only intensifies as you drink, igniting a low, pleasant fire in your belly. It kicks all the other hot chocolates in town squarely in the face—and if ingested in regular doses, it will do the same to your seasonal depression. (Oddfellows Cafe + Bar, 1525 10th Ave, 325-0807, 8 am–midnight, $2.50 and up)
