It’s an East Coast-West Coast spider-brawl: Not only is incredible low-budget local production Spidermann going to do battle with Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, it’s also going to face off against another no-budget Spider-Man musical, too:
Feb. 16 2011, New York, NY: ____ Veteran humorist and playwright, Justin Moran, launches “Spiderman Smackdown”, a guerilla theatre project to write, rehearse, and perform a fully realized musical based on the character Spiderman in under 30 days with a budget of $0. Set to open one day before the $65 Million Broadway musical “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark”, Moran’s musical will be the first Spiderman Musical to officially open in New York City.
Someone should let Moran know that his Spider-Man themed competition is stiffer than he thinks, particularly in the rush-job, no-budget category.

There is one important distinction from what I’ve read: Spidermann is a spoof of Turn Off the Dark, whereas Moran’s version is not intended to directly reference Ms. Taymor’s version at all. He is doing what he thinks she should have done the whole time: Creating a Spider-Man musical that is loyal to the comics and actually has a good script and score.
I’ve already seen the slow motion train wreck that is Turn Off the Dark, and I desperately wish I was going to be in town for both of the other productions. Unfortunately, I’m out on the road…can’t wait to see what people have to say about both other shows!
Gawd people, it’s “Spider-man”, sez so right there on the cover.
@1:
I wouldn’t say “Spidermann” is a SPOOF of “S-M:TOTD”, as there’s really no textual references in it to any of the plot (such as it is).
