If you’re nostalgic for the days when anti-nuke protests were all the rage at the Trident submarine base in Bangor, don’t miss tomorrow’s Mothers Day weekend “Mom Says: Abolish Nukes Now!” action and vigil at the Ground Zero Center in Poulsbo, WA. The day’s events include snacks, orientation, training, brown bag lunch, vigil, arrests, then a soup supper back at the center as they await for the arrestees to return. (Presumably, they’ll save some soup for the arrestees.)
Speaking of which, the Navy is planning to build a new Trident Support Facilities Explosives Handling Wharf at Naval Base Kitsap Bangor, and is accepting public comments through May 17. So if you have any thoughts about the wisdom of spending billions to upgrade our aging arsenal of Trident missiles in this budget-crunched post-Cold-War era, I’m sure the Navy would love to hear from you.
