  1. That was my mother’s life: stranded in the house, unless my father left her the car, while he carpooled.

There were neighbors nearby, and few women worked outside the home, but my mother got cabin fever, bad, after a decade as a stranded housewife.

  2. A Hump parody of this commercial must be done!!!! Of course there was a 50’s housewife parody done for either Hump 2007 or 2008. I can’t remember.

  3. nothing like getting behind the wheel of a 2 ton steel beast for an afternoon tryst with your “special friend” while all evened out with a happy mixture of benzedrine and nembutal.
    good times, good times…

  4. Meh.
I grew up in the suburbs in the sixties and we had only one car, like most families. We were hardly house bound. My mom and we would either walk or bike everywhere. Back in those days there were little corner groceries. The big shopping mall was about 2 miles away.

  5. My first “car” was a 1969 Dodge Dart. Luckily, I moved up in the world when my parents bought me (for $500) a 1982 Ford Fairmont station wagon, complete with wooden pannels. My drive to high school was styling. Everyone loved my mom-mobile-grocery-getter-make-out-monster. I was no longer a prisoner of my parents Ford van with the pull-down bed.
